svchost.exe - Application error

When accessing my ISP following error window appears,
SVCHOST.exe - Application error 0xc0000096 occured in the
program at location 0x0096f863, followed by a second
window "The instruction at 0x77d48358 referenced memory at
0xd3c524dd. The memory could not be read."

This stops other applications to open, processor running
at 100%, PC become unusable, the only way round seems to
be reboot and all is then OK. The operating system is
Windows 2000 professional. Any ideas or fixes I should
install.

I receive a similar message under nearly identical
circumstances. The error I receive is "Svchost.exe has
generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log will be created."

I followed the Microsoft Knowledge Base suggestions and
downloaded & installed Service Pack 4 (have you tried that
yet??). It still hasn't fixed the problem.

Have you found anything??

No, not yet. I have asked my PC department to have a look.

error and circumstances.

Maybe you have variant of that msblaster virus.

I have the same problem and circumstances - even after installing service pack 4 - have you managed to find a fix yet. Did deletion of the variant of MSBLASTER virus solve the problem

I have the same Problem also Mine come up after i use Dialup and get on
the internet the i get the error I need to fix this also.
I just cant disconnect after the error shows but everything else works
fine do you have any Ideas
