Please read carefully as it may or may not apply to your situation - ask
questions first - you may not get answers *right away* someone will help.

Removal Tool, your choice, novice users, Lavasoft's Ad-aware,

Mirror site: http://www.lavasoft.de/

You may post queries regarding Ad-aware at Lavasoft Support,

Advanced users, SpyBot Search & Destroy,
The download executable, here:

SpyBot home: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot How-To: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
More... http://tomcoyote.org/~mosaic1/spybot/

If you choose SpyBot - don't be shy to ask questions, I know that many of you
are silently running it out there and may be struggling a bit...

Install either but both are not necessary, reboot, read FAQ and overview, use
online update feature to obtain the latest reference files, scan for Spyware
much like you would with your pre-installed anti-virus scanner.
Rid your machine of unwanted Spyware pests.

For the even more adventuresome, there's JavaCool's spywareblaster,
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SpywareBlaster by JavaCool takes a different, complementary approach. Instead of
detecting or removing its targets, it inoculates your computer by telling it
never to execute certain software. This stops you downloading some types of
parasite, and stops others from working. However, like the script on this page,
it can only target ActiveX controls, so it is not a complete solution.

Just loathe to see folks getting hijacked when there's so much out there that
can be easily used to prevent it.

When using spybot, i had detected alot of "problems" like
backweb lite. it state that this program can be found in
HP/Compag pc. is it alright to fix all of them? Will
fixing them cause my program to become in-operative? Is
it save to fix all the "Red" problem as Spybot advised?

Kindly give your advise,
Thanks

There is one change I would like to see:

"Install either but both are not necessary, reboot, read FAQ and overview,

SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware overlap a good deal but they are not replacements
for each other. Each have slightly different targets that they detect. I
would recommend running, after updating, both separately. Ad-Aware first
then SpyBot S&D.
Just loathe to see folks getting hijacked when there's so much out
there that can be easily used to prevent it.

That is why I would take the person to the Web page describing the problem
and get them to download the application. Spoonfeeding them will not get
them to understand the magitude of the problem.

Backweb is a support application used by HP/Compaq. Unfortunately it can
be used by other "spybots" to deliver malicious code. So if you trust
HP/Compaq then you can place these items into the exceptions. If it were
me I would remove them insuring that you have a backup and run for a while
to see if there are any problems with HP/Compaq updates.

Fix all Red "problems" the green ones are tracking logs which may be deleted at
your option - be careful when doing this since Registry changes are made.

Info on Backweb - it is the general consensus that you should not be running it,
even if it shipped with your PC and was not installed as Spyware. It certainly
behaves as such. Backweb was not originally but now behaves that way.
