SUS for XPE through internet

Hi,

I'm interested in SUS to maintain XPE image with current updates, and now
I've some questions. Please let me know your knowledge.

1) SUS Server Program is free?

2) SUS is a part of Windows Server 2003, or standalone S/W?

3) What's deferences SUS and WUS(WSUS?)?

4) Can I make a SUS service for world-wide connecting through internet, or
only for local intranet?

5) As I know, SUS toss the updates from Windows Update website. When XPE
connect to SUS Server by automatic update, will SUS Server toss the updates
for XP Pro automatically?

6) As SUS server toss the update from Windows Update website, Is it OK on
XPE image? Does it work well? What is defernet from XP Pro Update for Desktop
QFE Installer which we can get from XPE OEM website?

Thank you, beforehand. (-;

1) SUS Server Program is free?

Software Update Services is a no-charge add-in component for Windows 2000 and Windows ServerT 2003.
2) SUS is a part of Windows Server 2003, or standalone S/W?
Both.

3) What's deferences SUS and WUS(WSUS?)?

Windows Update Services is the next version of Software Update Services (SUS).

4) Can I make a SUS service for world-wide connecting through internet, or only for local intranet?

In would probably a matter of having clients connected to the server service (VPN, extranet, etc.).
But the SUS service is intented to work on intranet (enterprise-level servicing solution).

Depending on what components are in your image.
The best asnwer you would get from testing the image on every single update you are planning to ditribute.
Certainly, WU update for Office, for instance, will not apply to XPe runtimes.

Microsoft position on that (see the link above):
"Although it is possible to configure client devices to directly download updates from the public Microsoft Windows Update web site,
doing so may potentially corrupt your device. Because Windows Updates are specific to Windows XP Pro or Home editions, some of the
updates may not apply to Windows XP Embedded images."
