Surround Sound Issue

I just acquired a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers and a new sound card to
handle it. When I tes the speakers they all work properly, but when I play
music files or DVDs with Windows Media Player or another media player, I only
get sound from the 2 front speakers. The control panel is set up properly on
5.1 surround. Is there a way to adjust WMP to play in surround sound or can
only certain file types be played in 5.1, but then why aren't the DVDs
working? Should I get another media player? I'm just getting frustrated.

hi james

u have to enable 5.1 in the sound card settings manager software which
should have come with the souncard itself.

if u are using creative live card check out the 5.1 option in surround mixer
software > advanced

are u using WMA 9 professional encoded songs ! if it is it will play on 2
speakers only ! ( it should be encoded for 5.1 if u uses songs encoded with
this codec )

u have to download a DVD decoder from a third party as microsoft windows
player doesnt have this by default !

try nvidia DVD Decoder as it is very good
goto nvidia .com and download this
