surface chart problems

I have the following table of data (this is a sample) that I would like to
create a surface chart for...

1YR 2YR 3YR
1MO 12.05 14.75 15.90
3MO 12.80 16.10 17.45
6MO 15.15 18.05 18.60
1YR 19.60 19.95
2YR 20.50
3YR
4YR
5YR
7YR
10YR

I see several problems.
1. Excel assigns colors to the wrong axis I beleive...
2. I cannot read what value is the intersection between 1Yr and 1MO...

How can I change the colors on the chart?
How can I change how the colors are assigned?
How can I just get it to be readable? :)

Thanks for the help!

I won't pretend to understand the values you're plotting.

1. Colors are assigned based on the values (12.05, 14.75, 20.50, etc.).
2. These charts are not easy to use to pick off values. Keep the table
near at hand.

To change colors, double click on the Z axis (the only value axis here,
X and Y have months or years) or on the legend, and adjust the scale,
then select the legend, and one by one, double click the little legend
key colored squares and assign the colors you want.

Jon,

thanks for the help... I am assuming you cannot format the chart to assign
colors to the series rather than the values?

Thanks again.

Correct. The formatting is by value. If you want it by series, maybe you
should use a line or XY chart.
