Superfluous User

I created a user named KCav and Windows created KCav.jet.
How can I stop Winows from creating a superfluous user?

Step-By-Step:
I went to Computer Management/System Tools/Local Uers and Grops/Users.
For Name I entered, KCav; Full Name, Kenneth Cavanaugh; Description,
Administrator. In C:\Documents & Settings two subaccounts appear: KCav and
KCav.jet.

I booted in Safe Mode and logged on under a different user. Then I deleted
KCav.jet. It went away, but when I rebooted it came back again. What is
causing this to happen?

The folders under "c:\Documents and Settings" are not "Subaccounts" -
they are profile folders. Each is linked to a logon account and is used
to store your personal settings and your personal files. If you delete
them you might delete important files.

To see which profile folder is in use, do this:
- Log on as "Kenneth Cavanaugh".
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
set userprofile {Enter}
What does the command report?

You need to keep the folder
"c:\documents and settings\kenneth cavanaugh".
The other folders were generated when you logged
on under a different account or were perhaps
validated by a Windows domain controller.

I booted in Safe Mode and transferred files from the User Profiles for kcav
and kcav.jet to the User Profile for Kenneth Cavanaugh. The reason for this
is to keep my Address Book, etc..

I do not understand why the User Profie kcav.jet appeared. I setup kcav and
suddenly kcav.jet appeared. I tried use kcav and informatin kept going to
kcav.jet. I went through folders such as Application Data, Favorites, Local
Settings, and My Documents for both kcav and kcav.jet and copied files to the
same folders under Kenneth Cavanaugh.

I then went to the User setup and deleted Kcav. Next I went to the User
Profiles for kcav and kcav.jet and deleted them. When I rebooted kcav was
nolonger listed in Users, and under Documents and Settings the User Profiles
for kcav and kcav.jet were gone.

I now have a User named Kenneth Cavanaugh and I am trying to configure
Internet Explorer and Outlook to work appropriately under th User Profile for
Kenneth Cavanaugh. I wonder will kenneth cavanaugh.jet suddenly appear? I
wonder what caused kcav.jet to appear?

Hi Kenneth,

If your user profile gets corrupted and you have it set to
login without the login screen, Windows will make a
temporary profile. I have seen some systems where it gave a
warning to that effect and other systems where no warning
was every made that a temporary profile was being used.
