Superceded Definition Files?

So I'm curious as to how the Windows Defender definition files really work.
Is it similar to virus updates? For instance, I leave on vacation for 10
days, and I come back to my WSUS server, and I see there are two definition
updates asking for approval. (The newer definition file "supercedes" the
older one.)

Do I need to approve *only* the latest definition file? I assume the
"newest" definition file contains all previous updates...and I therefore
wouldn't need to approve an older definition file, only the newest one.

Thanks for any comments.

I would love to see a Microsoft reply to this question. Definition updates
may be either complete or delta--meaning containing only the changes between
the previous definition set and the newest set.

I don't have a picture about how this works in this situation.
