i am having a problem implementing a suggested solution...

dustin harper recomends:
Go to Tools > Accounts > Select your mail account > Properties > Connection.
Select "Always connect using" and "Local Area Connection" if you connect
using the LAN. If you use a PPPoE connection on the PC, then you would
select that connection.

when i click on connections windows mail stops responding, checking for an
online solution does nothing...

There is only one checkbox under Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties |
Connection.

Uncheck that.

Sorry. I missed the initial issue. I don't have a clue what could be
causing that or how to fix it.

I can see where your name comes from, I'm equally frustrated with Vista and
Mail, a great product poorly implemented.

I had the same problem as yourself i.e. couldn't change the connection in
Mial, every time I clicked on the connection time mail froze and bombed out.
I finally found a solution, hopefully it will work for you to:

I had installed a new router and deleted the old connection name in Network
set-up, assuming I could then amend the conenction in mail, but of course
couldn't. I beleive the problem was that mail was trying to find the old
connection when it wasn't there any more. To resolve, I set-up a new dummy
connection through control panel with the same name as the previous
conenction. Once I had done that opened up mail, went to the account clicked
