How do I type subscripts and superscripts on the same variable when typing
mathematical formulas?

If you are using Word 97-2003: Click Insert | Object. In the Object dialog
box, locate Microsoft Equation 3 and click OK.

If you are using Word 2007 (and need backward compatibility), use Insert tab
| Object | Object to display the Object dialog box. Alternatively, use the
new equation editor (Insert tab | Equation).
