Subforms in Access 2000

I have a subform on a tab control that's on a form and I can not get it to
display its record source. I have set the subform record source, removed all
filters from the subform, and set its data entry property to no. The parent
record souce is different than the subform's record source. Still no records
displayed. I have moved this subform to a new form w/ a new tab control and
it works fine. When I put a new subform on the original form it does not
work either.

Further investigation reveals that the subform will display records from some
other tables, but not a duplicate of the table I want to use or a query based
on that table or a table made by a query based on that table.
