Style heading reorganization... from ????

..n styles my default style is no longer what it used to be? Somehow, what
used to be my heading 3 and 4 became heading 5, 6, 7,… in what is now heading
3 and 4 came from nowhere? How do I put 3 in 4 someplace else, and what is
now 5, 6 and 7 becomes 3 and 4 again?......how do I stop any automatic
renumbering so that Word can quit trying to "help"

Thank you, but the numbering is fine. I am very familiar with the document
you are referencing and refer to it quite often. It is the first line indent
and the body indent which are being changed by Word. I have 5 styles which
I use. They are multilevel. I set styles as I want them, then I right click
on the st and update the style to match selection. I then make this style
the default style. I then go in and save that style as quick style
selection, wherein I over write the normal. file. I then close that document
and close word. I go back in and open new document (but I do this with old
too, as I know about the apply to new document option, which seems to have no
affect) and headings 3 and 4 indents are reset from someplace, while the
headings 1, 2 and 5 have retained the setting I want.

If you are referring to the indentation of numbered styles, note that it
will be safer to modify the indents via the numbering options.

By "safer" I assume you mean to right-click on a style, the format, the number?
