stuck in boot screen saying "Please Wait..."

S

Steve Gauthier

I've just installed Windows XP Pro on a new computer I built for my sister
and I'm having problems once the install is complete and it boots to windows
for the first time.

I'm stuck at the boot logo screen where it shows the Windows XP logo and
"Please Wait..." underneath. I've left it there for a few hours and still
nothing.

The computer I installed it on has a Mercury motherboard with via processor
on board, 256MB ram, 1 20GB and 1 40GB hard drive, both western digital,
integrated video, sound and lan.

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro w/SP2. I had first put in the 20GB hard
drive, which already had windows xp installed and it booted fine, detected
all the new hardware and it was running fine, but my sister asked me to
reinstall Windows XP since she had a whole bunch of crap that she wanted to
get rid of. So I formated with Partition Magic 8 and reinstalled Windows XP.
I have no problems with the setup process itself up to the point where it
reboots and gives a message saying that my screen resolution isn't right and
it offers to correct it, which I let it do, but then I get the above
mentionned problem and I don't know what to do from there.

If anybody can help, please email me to stegau (at) gmail.com.

Thanks,

Steve Gauthier
