strange problem

Hello my boss has a Compaq we bought
about 5 months ago. Actually we bought
3 of them but his is the only one that has
developed this problem lately. We've ran
several different adware searches and found
nothing on his system. I even booted safe mode
and went looking for the usual ones that we
have had in the past and found none of them.
And when I ctrl-alt_del and look at the task
manager there really isn't that much running
at all. Certainly nothing that looks out of the
ordinary. The defrag analysis says that it does
not need defraging. But the machine has slowed
to the point of crawling. It is all but impossible
to work on. When we shut it down I see this
message that some DDE process doesn't
end task and has to be forcefully ended.
I've rolled the system back to a December
14th 2004, setup but it still is slow. Does
anyone have any helpful ideas?

Sounds like a Virus or a keylogger running on it.
What are you using for Anti-Virus?
What was in the SpyBot 1.3 Log??
What was showing when you ran Hijack this?

Another person in the office ran the adware software.
He told me he ran 3 different ones and it found
nothing. It takes quite a long time to run them and
I work in a different part of the office so I wasn't
in on that.
Do you have a Spyware that you recommend?
I use Norton System Securities on my machine and
I never have a problem.

1.That's true I have never had a problem with Norton it keeps
my node quite clean. I bought it myself since I did not want the
problems the other nodes where having sometime back.
2.The reason Norton is not on my bosses node is that he does
not want to buy it. They download various free ones of which I'm
not sure what they are they only said that they ran several of
them.
His machine is hopelessly slowed beyond real functionality.
I surmise he will soon back up and do a full restore.

I know this sounds too simple BUT it happen to me. My pre-school niece &
nephew were 'playing games' on their Grand-Ma's computer and found their way
into the CMOS and altered the CPU settings. It took a week of
AVG/AdAware/SpyBot/HiJackThis/Hair-Pulling to convince myself it wasn't
virus/spyware related.
