strange email address autofills but not found in my contacts

Each time I address an email from Outlook (2003) the autofill feature gives
me several choices based on the letters that I type. When I start to type in
"john" I see a strange email address: john<[email protected]> on
the drop down list of names offered for autofill. I do not know where this
name comes from. I have searched my Contacts list but I don't see any
contact with this email address. Where is Outlook generating this email
address from and how can I delete it?
Thank you,
John (not john wayne barclay)

That address is a previously-resolved name; i.e., you send mail to that
address at some point.

That list isn't connected to your Contacts in any way.

Brian,
Is there a way that I can delete this name from the drop down autofill list?
Thank you,

Brian,
The link is still not working. Is there any way that you could e-mail me
the article?
(e-mail address removed)
Thank you,
John

Brian,
I could not get to the article that you mentioned but your suggestion
prompted me to search the MS Knowledge Base which offered article 292928,
"Names are not resolved as expected when the name cache is full in Outlook
2002 and Outlook 2003".
The article explains how to delete names from the cache (below).

Thanks,
John

To delete names from the cache: 1. In the Inbox folder, click New, and then,
in the To box, type the first several letters of a recipient's name.
2. When the drop-down list appears, select names to delete, and then press
DELETE.
3. Quit and then restart Outlook.
