Strange DVD behaviour

I'm running XP HE SP1, Athlon XP 2400+, 550w PSU, 1GB memory, BTC 8x
Dual Layer DVD-RW +/-.

I've been using Nero Ultra to burn data onto DVD+RW discs for some
time, with successful results.
Recently, upon inserting one of these discs into the DVD writer, it
changes to 'CD Player' in My Computer, and when I attempt to access it,
an error box appears with "E is not accessible. Incorrect function".

Also, when burning discs, the CPU usage now jumps to 100% which in turn
slows everything else down to a crawl.

This has happened out of the blue - could anyone pinpoint the problem,
please? Is it Windows, the drive, or has Nero somehow become
corrupted?

I hope this is the correct group in which to ask this question,
apologies if it's not.

Thanks.

Nina - not sure what brand PC, I had a dell that did
something similar, I contacted them, and without my even
asking, the tech said - "we'll ship you a new drive". It
was a hardware failure in the drive - works great now
with the new one. You may want to check with the
manufacturer of your PC.

Good Luck!

Hi, thanks X,

I think it probably is the drive - I also have an external DVD
re-writer and everything seems to work fine with that.

Thanks again!
