SP2 is a fine upgrade and I encourage you to go ahead
and install it.

I would suggest performing the following maintenance prior to
installing SP2. Afterward, disable your antivirus program and
proceed with installing SP2.

Carey, are you aware that certain PCs based on common motherboard
chipsets can lock the user out of the system after an SP2 install?

Other threads refer. It's bitten Cari and myself, and several others
(as judged per forum posts). Predictive factors are Intel 865xx or
875x motherboard chipsets, Prescott generation Celeron or P4
processors, and nothing else so far. Not all such PCs affected.

If aware of this, i.e. installing SP2 could potentially lead the user
into wiping the HD and starting over, how do you justify encouraging
posters to install SP2, without asking whether this risk applies?

Testy

Carey take the "tech support" approach, he just reads from a script even if
it has nothing to do with the problem.

I'm using a MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard (865 Intel chipset) and
have installed SP2 without an issue. It may be those folks that are
having issues have not setup their BIOS configuration correctly.
