Stop folder being searched

I want to stop a folder and its' subfolders being searched by win explorer
search. It's to stop the huge amount of files stored appearing when searching
the drive for specific files. Is it possible to stop this folder being looked
in, possibly using a registry entry or other method?

make it a hidden folder and then "don't search hidden folders"
