Stop error & USB

I've been looking for an answer for awhile now & can't seem to find
one. Almost daily I get a Stop: 0X000000D1 error with
USBPORT.sys-Address F6E7A2B5. I'm pretty sure it's a driver error cause
it starts with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I've seen messages here
about removing the USB drivers & re-booting Windows but I'm wondering if
Windows will reload the drivers automatically. I don't have the disk
for XP, or at least I can't find it. The ports on the side front of the
box have now quit working, I get a message that the hardware attached
has malfunctioned, but then it works fine in the port on the back. This
all started after I installed the drivers for a Samsung mobile phone &
yes I've uninstalled the drivers but it didn't help. I also tried a
System Restore & that didn't help either.

Thanks

You'll want to get and reinstall the drivers for your motherboard (chipset).
See below for details:

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.

Malke,

Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded System Information for Windows & found the motherboard. I
went to Biostar's website & found the CPU but there is no listing for
any of the other numbers I have for reference. SIW says the model is
NF61S-M2A & something called South Bridge is nForce 430 (MCP61) LPC
Bridge, I can't find any of these numbers on the site. The computer was
built by the computer shop in town but he's really slow with repairs &
has limited hours. I hate to be without it for several days if I can
fix the problem.

I don't think you need to take the machine in for repairs, but you do need
those motherboard drivers. You should have gotten a CD with the drivers
when you bought the machine. Otherwise, you're really going to need to get
hold of the computer builder to find out the make/model of the motherboard.
Try another system inventory program like Belarc in the meantime. You need
the motherboard make and model number, not the numbers off motherboard
components.

.....
This all started after I installed the drivers for a Samsung mobile phone &
yes I've uninstalled the drivers but it didn't help. I also tried a System
Restore & that didn't help either.

Then it *may* be caused by the "Samsung" drivers (dunno who
writes PC software for them. I got a new Samsung phone recently
and have no probs with it's USB drivers - though overall their PC
software is sleazy and their support in Philippines clueless).

Since obvious system restore steps don't help, maybe you need to
reinstall Windows (of course you can backup it first and restore
if reinstall won't help...)

USB Problems - OK to Uninstall USB Controller?

there's advise how to use a Linux "live CD" to diagnose hardware, rather
than reinstall Windows.

Ok, I uninstalled the USB hub & ports, everything plugged into them
works except my mouse. I went to Logitech's site & it says to use the
native drivers, Windows says it can't find a driver for it. It worked
fine before I reinstalled the USB ports. I tried to reinstall Windows
but my copy says it's older than the version on my computer, both WinXP
Home. So, is this a WinXP problem or a mouse problem or..... ? The
worst part is, I'm still not sure if I fixed the original problem since
it's intermittent & I can go a whole day without a crash or have 5 or 6
a day.
I'm really not new to computers, just the hardware part. Right now I'm
using an old PS2 mouse & the pointer drifts across the screen on it's own.
