Stop error problem

P

Phil

I am hoping someone can help me find a work around for
the STOP: 0x0000009C (0x00000004, 0x00000000, 0xb2000000,
0x00020151)error. I have new and updated drivers and
dxdiag shows my system to be working. However when I try
to play a game such as Starcraft or Icewind dale the
computer reboots itself and puts this error message up. I
am not overclocking anything. My tow memory sticks are of
different brands but are both SDRAM PC100 (128M each) a
GeForce 5200 video card and a SB live sound card.

Do you have any ideas on how to get the computer to not
crash?

Hi Phil,

0x0000009C Machine check exceptions STOP errors are frequently caused by:

1. Overclocking: Running the processor or mainboard beyond its specifications.

2. Power: Noisy, overstressed power strips, outmatched or failing power supplies

3. Overheating: Caused by the failure of cooling devices such as fans.

4. RAM Memory: Damaged, mismatched not the correct type for your computer.

Here's Some Troubleshooting solutions you can use:

1. Try the suggestions at: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Mainboard Monitoring Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)

4. Test your RAM using: http://www.memtest86.com/memt30.zip
after you extract that zip file, click on the README.txt file for the
instructions on how to create the boot floppy to test your RAM.
