Stop error- dual-boot system - 2HDDs - new motherboard

I just put a new motherboard into a dual-boot system. The system was
originally configured with Win98SE. I installed a second HDD and
loaded Win2K on that. Now I can boot into 98 OK, but I get a stop
error when I try to boot into 2K. It is an 0x0000007b error, boot
device not available.

The disk itself doesn't seem to be damaged in any way. I diagnosed
it on another 2K machine, and it came up clean. I was able to read
it in Explorer and back up my data to a CD, It was also scanned
for viruses just before I did the motherboad swap. However, the
blue screen I get says something about drive mapping, and I think
this may be the problem; I have two HDDs and two CD drives on
the affected machine, and for the life of me, I cannot recall
what was paired with what, and on what IDE controller when I
tore the old system down. I've tried a couple of permutations
with the cables, but it hasn't helped.

My boot.ini file (C drive) looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=20
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect
C:\ = "Microsoft Windows"

How do I recover from this? I saved my data, but I have a lot of
apps loaded, and I'm not even sure I can do a reinstall in the
state the machine is in.

Thanks, Dave, but both of those articles refer
to the first thing I tried, i.e., booting from my
Win2K CD and running Repair. I still get the
stop error. Last night, I tried to do a reinstall.
I still get the stop error.

At this point, I need to know how to
restore the system to single boot,
into Windows 98, so I can format
the 2nd disk and start over. The
problem, of course, is that I cannot
boot into 2K at all, except for the
recovery console. For some reason,
I can get to that, but it's hard for me
to do much in there.

There is a possibility that the disk or
the IDE controller is bad, but I don't
think so. I can try to remove the
HDD that has 98 on it and reinstall
2K as a single OS. But I don't know
if I can do this and then restore my
dual boot function when I drop the
other drive in. Any ideas on that?

You can boot with your Win98 startup disk and issue the command
sys C:
this will rewrite the boot sector, then you can delete these files boot.ini,
ntldr, ntdetect.com, bootsect.dos, pagefile.sys and possibly ntbootdd.sys
from the root of the System partition C:\.
