stop error 0x00000050

Sally

Every once in a while my computer crashes into the BSOD and always with the
same stop error 0x00000050. After reboot, everything runs fine. Microsoft
always tells me that it is caused by a driver, but not which one. It
happened again tonight while surfing the net after weeks with no problem.
Sometimes it will do this when no one is even on it, but usually the
internet connection is up and running. Event viewer shows the following for
the time of the crash:

I haven't recently installed any new software or hardware, so I don't think
that is it. But like I said this has been occurring every once in a while
for about the last 3 or 4 months. I went into device manager and it shows
everything is working properly. But I know just enough about these computers
to be dangerous. lol Any help would be greatly appreciated. So somebody
smarter than me tell me what this stuff means and how to fix it please.

Thanks,
Sally

G'Day Sally,

I love talking to people who know enough "to be dangerous"!

Now I had this problem, and you wouldn't believe the reason.

The PC came with a PCI Modem card that worked just fine.

When I came across a driver problem with ANOTHER device,
I thought "Ok! I'll update ALL my drivers" - bad move.

I had a series of BSODs.

Windows Xp comes with a Range of Drivers that have been
checked for Xp compatibility. I had to solve my modem
problem by un-installing the LATEST driver, in favour of
the Xp provided driver.

Is there any Driver that you recently updated? -or or even
installed?
