On my new ThinkPad G40, I shrank the NTFS, installed
Mandrake 10 dual boot. XP worked fine when booted. Then
installed VMWare and ran XP as a VMWare guest (after
defining a new hardware profile for VMWare's use as well as
extracting the non-acpi HAL and a separate ntkrnl file for
VMWare and creating a new boot.ini entry. XP works fine
now under VMware. But when I try to boot XP native now, I get:
Stop 0x0000007B (0xF7B4E640,0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000).
I've googled everywhere but can't find reference to the
F7B4E640 value. I'm guessing that when XP detected the
VMware "disk", even though it's a raw disk, it somehow
disabled the driver for the "real" disk in the registry,
and ntldr chokes. I've been over KB article 324103 and all
its derivatives to no avail.
