Stop: 0x0000008E errors

Ryan Miller

Can anyone tell me what these memory dump errors may mean
for me? They have all been identical except for the 3rd
number in parenthesis.

Here are my system specs:
Purchased 6/03

Shuttle xpc SN41
BIOS: FN4S00Y
Processor AMD Athlon xp 2000+ @133/266 mHz FSB
Thoroughbred core
WinXP Home Build 2600.xpSp2.030422-1633: Serv Pack 2
Memory Visiontek pc2100 DDR @ 266mhz 2x512mb
Western Digital 40gb EIDE / 5400 / 2mb/12.4ms/ATA-100 w/
standard cables, I think.
integrated nVidia GPU with 128mb shared memory

I ran memtest86 for over 8 hours with no errors, but
still got the memory dump error several times after that.

These errors lasted for several days then suddenly the
errors stopped, but now I can't load the drivers for the
integrated nVidia GPU?! Do you think the GPU is faulty?

I read up on some other pages that say it was a "memory
access violation", but I don't know how to tell if it is
the nVidia GPU or not. Thanks for any help you can send
my way.

Thanks, Will. I found your post from earlier this year
referencing Jim's page and that is the information I used
to discover it was a "memory access error". But I still
don't know if it was my nVidia GPU or something else.

I haven't gotten the error for a couple of days now, but
I did have a corrupted or missing config.sys? Didn't know
winxp home needed that file. :)
