Still no IP address from DHCP???

Scott

I am using XP Pro on a desktop and have a small home
network (3-4 computers) using a dell wireless router as a
DHCP server. My desktop is not able to obtain an IP
address from the router. It used to be able to and quit
for no know reason. Info below...

-TCP/IP is set to obtain IP/DNS automatically.
-I do have link light on both my NIC and router port.
-Pinging 127.0.0.1 is good.
-Replaced NIC. No help.
-I have tried to assign a unique static address in range
of network. Using the router as gateway, same subnet and
same DNS as all other computers on network are using.
-I have hooked up a laptop to same cable and obtain
address fine.
-I get NO address at all. Not even 169.254.x.x.
-My router has the MAC table granted for the MAC of my NIC
-I try ipconfig /release and get following message: "IP
Address for adapter Local Area Connection 6 has already
been released."
-I try ipconfig /renew and get "An error ocurred while
renewing interface Local Area Connection 6 : The system
cannot find the file specified."

I'm lost on what to try next. Anyone with thoughts is
appreciated.

Sounds like the router is not working or the cable from
your PC to the Router needs replacing.

Please check these

Im pretty sure this is just a driver problem. Drivers
have been corrupted.

Its NOT the cable or the Router "Jono" (Mr MCSE, MCSA,
MCP) because the Laptop worked fine on the same network
point. Thats microsoft training for you!

Im interested to know if the PC worked with a static IP,
etc as above.

First try removing the "LAN Connection 6" and settup a
new connection.

Then try update drivers for your network card. The
default Windows XP ones may be corrupted.

Hope this helps

I have already eliminated both of these as problems. But
thanks for your input.

My laptop works fine using same cable, so is not cable.

As I mentioned, I am getting link light on both router
and NIC. Also the router is handing out IP's to all other
network devices. So is not specific port or router.
