Steps to remove a Windows XP machine from a local network.

I once had my Windows 98SE computer networked via a Verizon router with
my Windows XP Pro SP3 computer. Well, to make a long story short, I no
longer need or require this network to exist. Is there some simple set
of instructions that details how to remove this network setup from my
Windows XP machine?

Thanks in advance for any help sent my way on this subject.

The simplest way is to unplug the network cable. Uninstalling the network
adapter is another simple measure.

You haven't given enough information. How was this networks setup etc...
Normally all you need to do is disconnect the cable. If you have static IP
addresses or DNS addresses etc all that is needed it to delete the network
connection and let XP reinstall a new one, if applicable.

| Change the "WORKGROUP" name on either PC.

That won't change anything.

There are no instructions.
If you set it up, you can take it down.

Simply to physically unplug the computers from each other will [quite
obviously] stop the network from existing.

There is nothing more you really need to do as it is not like a piece of
software that needs to be 'uninstalled' . Although, you could uninstall the
following components:

'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks'
'Virtual Machine Network Services'
'Client for Microsoft Networks'

Although you may need them for other connections that you have. It's pretty
pointless to uninstall them as they are tiny utilities that are present by
default.

One thing you CAN do, though, is to delete the connection in the 'Network
Connections' folder ('Control Panel' > 'Network Connections'), if you are
quite sure that you will never use that network anymore.
