Status bar text as marquee

I'm very new to all this, so I may not make sense
Can anyone tell me how I get the status bar text to scroll across or marquee (I think that is what it is called)

Just my opinion - this effect was way over-used a few years ago (guess it
was cool back then) but it's one of those things that most people find
annoying and I can't see it adding any value to a site. But use it if you
like
