Stationery in Windows Mail

C

CatMar

Dear all,

A new computer and a new Operating System. Sounds great. But I am a
stationery maker and now I have problems. I have heard there are some
problems with Windows mail and stationery. Is there a knowledge base? My
problems are mainly viewing applets -Windows mail closes down on each
stationery with an applet in it. And also Metacreations files do no longer
show up...
Does anyone have any ideas on how to be able to enjoy making stationery in
Windows Mail? Thank you so much in advance!

Best regards,
Karin*CatMar

The stationery default location is now under the message store location (see
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm). In order for some to display correctly,
WinMail has to be put into the restricted zone under Tools | Options |
Security. Otherwise, most work okay.

I've looked at many in the Stationery newsgroup while testing Vista and they
seem to work fine for the most part. There may also be some IE7 security
settings that may need changing.

Thank you for your kind help, Steve. I'm sorry I'm a bit late responding,
but I have been away for a while.
I can indeed see a lot of stationeries. It is stationeries with Applets in
them that just close Windows mail down. I have now had to leave one of my
favourite groups where I have been a member for a long time just because of
this. Changing the DEP settings has not helped and adjusting the security
levels does not help either. I am very sad about this.
I cannot go back to my old computer with Windows XP because I am disabled
and need this special computer. So I am at a loss here, really.

But thanks anyway.

Hi, I am having the same problems, I have followed all of the instructions
given to me and the ones in the E-Book. I still cannot view the stationery
with Applets. Is there anything else we can do??

fraoch,

Do you have the dxtmeta2.dll (may be uppercase DXTMETA2.DLL - doesn't
matter) in your Vista windows\system32 folder? If you need the dll, you can
download it from our site (link below). If you already have the dll in your
windows\system32 folder, you should only need to register it. I'm guessing
you tried start|run and then:

regsvr32 dxtmeta2.dll

If that gave you an error message or a message saying the register was
successful and yet the metacreations filters still didn't work for you,
there's something else you can try. Go to:

http://richard-and-michaela.com/?viewing_requirements

On the left of this page is a downward pointing arrow. Click on it to
download the zipped file and save it. When you unzip it, you'll see several
files including the metacreations dll which you may already have in your
windows\system32 folder. You should read the readme text file. Also, there's
a file named: registerMetaCreations.bat. If trying to register the dll the
normal way didn't work for you, you can right-click on
registerMetaCreations.bat and select 'Run as administrator' and follow the
prompts. If you can run it as administrator then hopefully this will get the
metacreations filters working for you.

Hope this helps,

Richard

Ok, since this is somewhat related to what has already been talked about
in this thread, I have a question of my own. I am a script writer for
stationery that can be used in either OE or WinMail. I have discovered
today however that I am unable to install the required dll's to be able
to use the DX transform filters and MetaCreations filters. I am in the
process of taking classes for script writing and these are required
elements of the lessons I am currently working through. Does anyone
have any idea how I can get these things installed? Every time I try I
end up with an error telling me that it couldn't be done. I know how to
do this in XP really well, however now using Vista things seem a whole
lot more complicated for installing required dlls for my script
writing.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Frank, just FYI, the MetaCreations transition filters have been used in
advanced stationery for years. They are used in addition to, and in
combination with, the Microsoft transition filters. The MetaCreations
filters are DX transform filters like the MS filters and they work fine in
OE and Windows Mail. They are used in stationery scripts just like the
MS filters are, and the MetaCreations filters provide some cool additional
transition effects. The MetaCreations file is: dxtmeta2.dll ...and it is
copied into the windows\system32 folder (Vista / XP / 2K) or windows\system
folder (ME / 98). It then has to be registered for the MetaCreations filters
to work.

Normally to register the MetaCreations filters, you go to:
'start' > 'run' and type in (or copy and paste):

regsvr32 dxtmeta2.dll

....and hit enter. That has always worked in the past with XP and earlier
versions of Windows. It did not work for me with Vista HP so I created a
batch file containing the above command to 'Run as administrator' in Vista
and that did work to get the dll registered and working fine for me in
Vista.

Fraoch,

Not sure why you get the 8002801c error. Did you get this error when you ran
the registerMetaCreations.bat file as administrator? If not, when did the
error occur?

Richard

Thank you so much for your help Richard. I am now getting a new kind
of error ... it is 8002801c. Can you help with this one? I have your
zip file saved in case it is required for this next error as well.

Thanks again
Fraoch
