I've been getting the limited or no connectivity error on my networked
computers. Tried the Microsoft patch and about 20 hours of just about
every 'solution' under the sun. Still no go. Here is my IP address

Can anyone provide me with a solution that will get my home
networking back in action. The PPP IP address/default gateway changes
every time I shut down the computer. Thanks... Scott..>

First tell us how your network is setup. Im assuming you have 2 computers
networked together with your USB cable/DSL modem conected to one computer.
Am I correct? Is this a wireless network or a wired network. I am assuming
wired. Are you using a HUB/SWITCH or a router or just a crossover cable to
connect your two computers?

If the IP address on your Internet modem changes everytime, its not a static
IP connection. You either have a dynamic IP or PPOE account. With a PPOE
account you need to setup the username and password in the software that you
use to connect to the internet.

Get back to us with some more info and we can help.

Wow...Finally some answers! Here goes.... I'm using a wired network
with a hub and non crossover cat5 cables. It is a PPOE account that
changes IP address with every reboot. The system worked fine up until
this week using DHCP settings. Second time this happened to me. Last
time it happened I had very little content on my HD and simply did a
format/ reinstall everything sequence. I'm just short of doing it
again but this time I have a recent Norton Ghost backup. Hope I don't
have to go that route. Thanks again... Scott.>

1)Is your modem an ethernet or usb modem? Also, were is your DHCP server?
you are using a Hub so it does not have one.
2)Does your computer that is connected to the modem have internet access?
3)I notice one of your computers says LAN Connection 4. What are you using
on the other 3 connections?

My modem is a Cisco 678 using an SMC EZ CONNECT USB Ethernet Adapter
to connect to the computer. Is was working well for over2 months until
the connectivity problem emerged. Did not change/install anything
before this happened. The LAN connection 3 was an attempt to install a
new Lan connection. It didn't work so it was deleted. The setup
attempts stay resident on the OS so my last attempt was labeled number
4. My host computer connects to the Internet. Only problem is with my
network home setup. Thanks Robert. Scott.>

OK....... I still need a clear picture of your network setup. We are almost
there.

Is this the way you have your network setup?
ADSL MODEM/ROUTER [--Crossover Cable----->Computer#1 NIC
[--Crossover Cable-->SMC EZ
Connect Ethernet to USB Adapter-->Computer#2

Looking at your origional post the IP address on your computer and the SMC
EZ CONNECT USB Ethernet Adapter is not in the same range. Your local area
connection 2 is at a 192.168.10.2 and your Local Area Connection 4 ia at a
192.168.0.1. That looks to be your problem. Change your Local area
Connection 4 to 192.168.10.5 for example and see if that works.

Connection is
In ... ADSL ... SMC EZ Connect USB adapter ...USB port on
computer.

Out ...NVidia NIC card on motherboard ... D-Link hub ... Straight
cat5 cable to other computer ... SMC EZ PCI Card.

All worked fine until this week. Never touched a thing. Scott.>
