Startup Warning

I get a warning from Windows Defender every morning when I boot with Outlook
in my Startup folder, . The warning: "Defender has detected changes to your
computer settings". When I click on it I get a Defender window directing me
to "Select an action to apply". This window shows the Publisher as "Not
available" and under Type it says "file type unknown". It fails to recognize
Outlook in many other categories as well, such as Product Name, etc. How can
that be? It's a Microsoft application!! I have Eudora in Startup, too,
but Defender says nothing about that. But I simply cannot boot with Outlook
in the Startup folder and not get this warning. Anyone know what this means
and how to deal with it?

Hello Paul,

If you really feel comfortable to do so, you can do this thru Tools>General
Settings>Choose when Windows Defender should notify you.

I hope this post is helpful.

Thanks, Engel, but I should have said that I was familiar with the fact that
I could put Outlook in "Allowed Items" and that I was reluctant to do so for
obvious reasons.

In any case, the real questions remain: (1) Why would Windows Defender not
recognize Microsoft Outlook? And (2) once Defender gives you the first
warning and asks you to select an "Action", why does it not accept the
"Permit" as final and ask for confirmation every day?
