startup problems

I need help. Some type of adware took over my laptop and now when I start up
XP pro, Vista Anti-virus 2008 loads and scans and then wants me to purchase
and when I hit the start button only limited programs are available. I
started in safe mode and I cannot get to the run button to get msconfig to
check startup programs. Any suggestions?

1st maybe run microsoft malicious software removal utility
at:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&DisplayLang=en
If it still persist,as with xp,boot to xp cd,recovery console,in
recovery,type:
Listsvc Locate & write down the unwanted service(s) that runs on start
up,once
thru, exit, type:Disable In Disable, the wizard will guide you thru, type in
the service
that you wrote down.Once thru,type:Fixboot Type:CHKDSK C: /p Type:EXIT
Let vista start up.These are xp & most all windows cmds, should be ok in
vista...
