Startup problem

I have a Dell Dimension L550r with XP Home Edition and SP2. When i boot up
the computer freezes up when it gets to the point where the theme starts to
load. The desktop picture appears but no icons or start menu ever appear. I
can startup okay in safe mode and have used msconfig to try and resolve the
problem but have had no luck. I have every service turned off except two
critical services. I looked at every thread that addresses startup issues and
have tried all the recommendations but still no luck.

Please help! Any suggestions???

having only 2 services running may be the problem. the windows theme is a
service so that leaves 1 more that you have and maybe half a dozen that you
need to run. if you have the windows cd, run setup, new install and select
repair when the cd asks you. disconnect everything from your pc except your
monitor, keybrd, and mouse. this might help find the reason why you chose to
disable all those vital services....
