recently ran spysweeper program and then restarted computer. on startup, no
icons appeared and i was not able to right click or do much of anything.
could use the control-alt-delete buttons, but that didn't help much.
i re-installed windows xp last night, and now the icons appear, but am still
unable to click on them and everything operates very slow, if at all.
when shutting down, there is a window pop up that says something like having
problem shutting down explorer.exe.
also, on startup, sometimes now get an error pop up that has rundll error.
also, a pop up that says my computer is infected (pops up in lower right
corner) and should click here for information. clicked there, but nothing
happened.

any info would be appreciated.

Go to My Computer --> right click C: --> Properties --> Tools --> Check Now.
In the submenu that appears next, checkmark the field "Automatically fix
system file errors" --> click Start. You'll get a message that the utility
can't be run because the disk can't be locked and whether you want to
schedule a check on the next reboot. Click "Yes" and then reboot.

When you reinstalled the OS, did you reformat first? If you did, did you
remember to install the chipset drivers before installing graphics drivers,
sound card drivers etc.?

I did not reformat when i re-installed the OS. Does this cause a problem?
I will keep checking back for more suggestions and will update when i try
