Startup lag time

Hi,

can anyone give me some more tricks to determine why there's a significant
lag time when starting Windows XP Embedded (after GUI appeared, there's a
one-minute period during which nothing happens and nothing new can be
started)? I've tried looking at several topics (mostly using the tools from
SysInternals). I guess it's some driver or service checking for a dependency
that isn't there: can I somehow get a detailed trace about what
devices/services are attempted to start (including timestamps on start and
end of each attempt).

Thanks

Gert,

There is a great tool available - BootVis - that can help you analysis your image boot time.
Please search Google and this NG archive for the tool download links.

Hi,

having the same problem with different XPe Images. Is there a solution for
this problem?
In my case i think its a problem with the taskbar and / or the tray icons.
Sometimes after the "startup lag time" all tray icons (network, sound...)
are loaded, sometimes not?!
Another problem is that i want to kill the explorer process after login -
so users have no shell and taskbar. But when i minimize some open program
(e.g. taskman) the title bar of the program keeps on the bottom of screen.
In XP Professional the behavior is that the minimized program is no longer
visible (no title bar).

Thanks
Carsten Kett
