Startup Items

I have Win XP Home SP1 and noticed I have 30 processes running in Windows
Task Manager (Support.exe, MSMSGS.exe and 5 instances of svchost.exe are
the ones if not needed I'd like to stop). I looked in msconfig > startup,
but none are listed there.

How would I keep them from running in the background?

Thank you

Those running processes are normal. If you attempt to
shut them down, you'll likely create problems.

Thank you. I've read the articles you included and will leave everything
alone.
I appreciate your time!

disable one at a time, see what difference it makes then, if no difference
discernable leave it disabled
