startup items listed in msconfig

Nancy Giel

I have unchecked a lot of startup items using msconfig on
my system, and there are a lot of programs which keep
coming back! I would like to delete these items as the
list keeps getting longer and longer - some entries like
AOL IM appear about 15 times on this list - I do not want
it to start up so keep running msconfig to uncheck it - I
have searched everywhere I can think of to find
information on deleting items from this list and can't
find anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You
Nancy

You can try and uninstall those programs. If you need
them and the msconfig option still doesn't work, go into
your registry (go to START->RUN and type 'regedit'). In
there, go to EDIT->FIND and do a search on RUN. One of
the folders named RUN or RUNSERVICES has the services that
start up. RUN- and RUNSERVICES- should be the ones that
you unchecked in MSCONFIG and should not run. Just copy
what you don't want to run from RUN to RUN- (or
RUNSERVICES to RUNSERVICES- ). Hope that helps.

Sorry, I gave you bad info. You can't copy or move stuff
in registry. You can, however, delete the items in RUN or
RUNSERVICES and retype them in RUN- or RUNSERVICES-.
Unchecking the services in MSCONFIG should stop them from
running so editing the registry is really unnecessary.
