Windows Explorer is loading Program Files\Common on Startup. I've looked at
All Users\Start Menu and my Start Menu and there's nothing unusual there. I
am running 2000 Pro SP4.

Also look for something in;

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Still don't see anything wrong with the registry. The only thing I see with
the explorer loading is the shell. I changed it and had to run in command
prompt mode to import my registry backup. That's definitely not it. I don't
see anything else in the autoruns but background processes.

It's not something critical, just annoying.

I think you must have missed it. To prove it one way or the other you can
export the two 'Run' keys to file (File|Export);

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Then delete the values in both 'Run' keys. (but not 'Run' key itself) If it
still happens then you can double-click the two REG files to import the
values so you're back to square one.

That stopped. It only problem is, it stopped everything else. I am now on the
internet with no protection. My system tray is empty and importing my
registry back doesn't restore those run values! If I can get everything back
up and running, I don't need anymore help from you. Thanks.

Find the keys that you exported and simply remerge them to the registry,
everything will be as it was. As for your firewall and anti-virus
protection just open these programs and in the options menu reenable
them to start when the computer boots.

1.) Glad to hear that resolved the issue.
2.) Then you're doing something wrong. Either in the export method or the
import method. Post the two exports.
3.) As far as not needing any more help that's fine too.
