Startup - File Display

I know there's a way to keep the system files (or whatever they are)
from showing during Windows startup. My startup screen just started
showing two or three files. I don't know why, and I can't remember what
to do to stop it.

I apologize because I know this has been listed here before, but people
have so many ways of typing the subject line, a logical search isn't
always possible.

Sorry, I don't understand. Please clarify what you mean by "startup screen"
and what files you see shown.

Sorry. Now that I reread the message, it is kind of vague. When the blue
splash screen with the Windows XP logo is displayed, file names that are
loading are displayed just below the logo. I seem to remember there's a
way to supress the file name display...

Looked around Kelly's Korner and found this:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 69, right side:

Startup/Shutdown/Logon/Logoff Status Messages

Verbose.vbs

I downloaded and ran it, then restarted XP. I got the same results. I
looked at her instructions then did a regedit and set the dword to (0).
That took care of it...

Manual Method: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
To enable verbose status messages create a new DWORD value called
"verbosestatus" and set it to "1".
