Starttls
Good day and thank you for reviewing this post.

I am dealing with a new Vaio Vista Premium laptop ..... using MSN as email
provider. Using Outlook 2003. Set up with ALL settings exactly like on old
machine (XP) and email sends and receives.

Except, periodically I get this error message when sending:

530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

I googled this and got lots of help if I was a JAVA programmer ... but I am
just an ordinary user and technician. I am sure there is a simple setting or
download I need to correct this .... and I know there is someone in this
forum somewhere that has the answer .. you guys ALWAYS do ... and for much
more difficult situations than this! LOLOL

I would be grateful to anyone offering suggestions for fixing this.

Thank you an have a great day!

Thank you for your response. No, I am not using Outlook Connector .. that I
know of. I will follow your advice and get back with you via this forum ...
but I will not be able to for a few days.
I am not debating your response, but I set the new machine up with the same
settings as a previous machine ... what would have caused me to need this
Outlook Connector on the new machine? Do you think it is likely that I had
it on the other and just did not know it? I guess my question is why would I
need it now when I did not (supposedly) need it before?
Either way I will try this and let you ... and this forum .... know the
results. Thank you very much for your reply and I will get back here in a
few days after I give it a go.

Enjoy your weekend.

The Outlook Connector is the new way of connecting to Hotmail/Live/MSN
accounts. Making a connection via the old HTTP protocol was still possible
if you already had set it up this way. In most cases, it will not work when
you try to connect like this with a new installation.

Another possibility is that you have a virus scanner which integrates with
Outlook that causes you this issue. Disable this integration and try again.
See;

Either way; the Outlook Connector is the new way of connecting and also
offers you much more options and is more reliable than the standard HTTP
connection.
