starting ms office word 2003 as outlook email editor

When selecting MS word as the email editor, I get the following dialogue box
"..Starting Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your email editor..." and Outlook
then hangs. I have to close it using Task Manager. Outlook works fine using
the HTML option.

Outlook was using MS Word as the email editor until I had a friend "assist"
me in setting up email alerts, and helping me link another PC to mine (so
that two PCs could access the internet via the one broadband modem).

Any clues on what's causing Outlook to hang?
