Start-up problems + SCSI Jaz not recognized

P

P

My Win2000 Professional machine will not start for hours
after shutting down. Restarts are fine.

Also, my PC shows that I have 4 CD drives, but I only
have 2. I believe this issue is tied to my SCSI card
which fails to register the Jaz drive connected to it,
and lists 3 drivers on Device Manager, one of which has
an alert. And the 2 phantom CD drives are listed with
SCSI in the description. I DL'd Iomega's latest driver
pack and it hasn't quite worked. On one start I did see
the Jaz icon and could read discs, but it's gone again
and I don't know what brought it back temporarily.

Thanks for any help.

Try booting your controller utility (possibly Cntl H or Cntl A at POST ) to
enter controller bios to see what devices are found on the scsi chain. Make
sure each device is assigned a unique ID. Make sure the scsi bus is properly
terminated.

Dave - thanks for the reply. The start up issue is far
more troubling and urgent for me right now. Last weekend
my PC wouldn't start for 36 hours after a power outage.
Restarts are always fine, but starting after a shut down
always takes repeated attempts over many hours or longer.
What could be clogging the start up procedure and why
doesn't it affect restarts? I've never messed with the
BIOS, so please be as specific as possible. Thanks a lot.
Feel free to email as well.
