Start up in Normal Mode

K

kurata

My Norton Anti-virus software warned of a Spybot virus it
was unable to delete. While following the instructions I
disabled the system restore function. Booting up I went
in to safe mode. Using
System>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup. The
Backup was not on the drop down. I shut down and now
everytime I start up I am in Safe Mode. I have powered
down, unplugged my computer, waited, and tried again. No
change. What am I doing wrong.

Thank you for any assistance.

If you are running Windows XP Home, the Backup Program is not installed by
default. Youcan install it from your XP CD or I believe you will find a
downloadable copy at Bob Cerelli's site, www.onecomputerguy.com. On your CD
and elsewhere, look for "ntbackup" [if my memory is correct].
As to the lock into Safe Mode, go to a Command Prompt and type "msconfig"
[minus quote markers] and press the keyboard "Enter" key. When the "System
Configuration Utility" opens, click the "Boot.Ini" Tab. Remove the Checkmark
from "/Safe Mode" (or similiar title)". Close the utility and restart.

You are certainly welcome. Glad to help. Also remember that if you have
getting into Safe Mode using the F8 Key, go back to the System Configuration
Utility and put the Checkmark back in the Box by "/Safe Mode" and restart
Windows. When you finish working in Safe Mode, just remember you have to
remove it.

NOTE: This is an edited version of that reply contained below. Excuse!
