Start Up Error

I am currently using Access 2003 with SP2. I have several databases and they
are all multi-user environments. However, I have one database that is only
used by two people (including myself) and when the other user is already in
it and I try to open it, I get the following error .....

"When attempting to open a database object in Design view, you may encounter
this error message. This occurs because Access requires an exclusive lock to
the database for some object types since other users may attempt to use the
objects. If you change the name of a table, or its definition of fields while
someone has the table open, this will result in a serious error for the other
user. Therefore, you must acquire sole access to the database while you
attempt to update the object. When you release control of the object, other
users will be allowed to use the database (release your exclusive lock).
It is recommended you implement source code control for development efforts
by using the Microsoft Visual SourceSafe Add-in for Microsoft Office Access.
As an alternative you could distribute local working copies of the database
to each developer.
More information about this error message online." When I click on the link
to get more help online, it gives me nothing. Once I click <OK> on the
message, it appears 30 more times (I am not exaggerating-I counted) before it
actually opens up the database.

I have had this happen before on another PC but I have no idea what I did to
correct it. Now I am using another laptop and the error is appearing again.
Also, I only have this happen when I try to open it from my laptop - I acan
go to another PC and it opens up just fine.

Please help! I am tired of answering this message 31 times everytine I open
the database!

I'm sorry, the actual error reads as follows: "You do not have exclusive
access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may
not be able to save them later."

Again, PLEASE HELP!!!

Are you sharing the same front end?

I have not split the database yet.

There lies your problem. Users should not even share the same FE, let alone
share the same unsplit app. If your others are working fine then you have
been very lucky so far.

I have not split the database as there are only two users and we are both
administrators to the database. We have had it set up this way for 3 years
now and never any problem until I received a new laptop. I can log on to any
other computer in the office and it will open fine so this is why I am lead
to believe that it is just a setting that is on my specific PC. ????

I have corrected the problem.....it appears that the Adobe 7.0 toolbar was
creating a conflict with the "Open as a Shared Database" therefore causing it
to override the Shared setting and attemping to open it as Exclusive instead.
Once the toolbar is removed, the conflict was resolved.
