Start-up always defaults to XP Set-up and then hangs

I've had to reinstall XP after a hard drive failure. I've reapplied all XP
patches and service packs. When I power up, start-up offers me a choice of XP
Set-up (default) or XP Home Edition. If I don't change to XP Home Edition
within 2 secs then the sequence continues by trying to invoke XP Set-up then
hangs. Help!

Note: You can also change the Menu Display time from there.
