start up activates slow virus scan

L

Larry Keith

Using XP and Office for XP for last 8 months, along with
Norton AntiVirus, on stand alone computer (no network).
Since just a few days ago, opening a Word file takes
about 60 seconds, while at the bottom of Word window
there appears text "requesting anti virus scan...". That
process complete the file opens. This scan is totally
unnecessary, and I can find no option in Word for
shutting off the request for a scan...and no off switch
in Norton. How do I get rid of a virus scan of my own
files in word, so that it will simply open?

Norton has forgotten to update its Verisign certificate which ran out on the
7th January.
Norton has posted a silly suggested fix at
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl
A better plan, which will not compromise security, would be to disable the
NAV Office Plug-in. You do so via Norton AV > options > miscellaneous.

Hey thanks for that. I've been suffering through this
thing for the last month or so. Your solution solved the
problem.

Thanks.
