Start->Search->For Files or Folders..... stopped working

As my subject implies the "Start->Search->For Files or Folders.....
stopped working". Also, there are certain links that I can't follow.
For an example on the
this page (don't know if these 2 are related):

I can't click on this link:

I'm running WinXP Home Edition SP1 on a Toshiba Satellite

Your first link simply redirects to your second.
Might you not copy-and-paste the links to your Internet-Browser

Nope that did not help. Another clue, is that I can do a search from
IE.

All these links work for me from OE6

If below links do not work (problem itself), then right-click over them and
click 'Copy Shortcut', paste into IE
Do same regarding link above (kellys-korner) concerning the 'help' problem
