Start Menu Won't Display User-Specific Shortcuts

Hi,

I'm running WinXP SP1. I've uninstalled Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (I've finally
bought CS2), and when I was finished uninstalling the program, my start menu
no longer displays the program shortcuts (and startup folder) specific to my
user name. Only the program shortcuts that are in the "All Users" folder are
displayed. The shortcuts are still visible whenever I explore my folder,
however.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Greg

Greg,

Try this.

* Right-click on Start, select 'Explore'
* Right-click on 'Programs', uncheck 'Hidden', click OK & OK

Hope that's the answer to your problem.

Greg,

Inspect and fix the shell folder paths for the following items in the
registry:

1. Start Menu
2. Programs
3. Startup

You mean right click on 'programs' then select 'Properties' and then uncheck
'Hidden'?

Neither the 'All Users' 'Programs' folder was checked, nor my spefic one.
Any other ideas?

I tried what you suggested on your site, but this instead allows me to see
ONLY what is in my specific program and startup folder, and excludes whatever
is in the All User's folder. [Previously, I used to be able to see my
specific program links, as well as the All Users ones]

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help, Drew and Ramesh, but I was able to fix the problem
using Tweak UI. For some reason WinXP was pointed to some sort of dummy
folder on C: called 'Docs&Sets'...

Can I delete this folder, or is this some sort of essential folder?

Greg,

Which setting in TweakUI you're referring to, and also tell us the name of
the folder and it's full Path.

In Tweak UI (v.2.10), I was able to reset the locations of the Special
Folders by expanding 'My Computer" (on the left), selecting 'Special Folders'
and then resetting the locations of the Start Menu, Programs, and Startup
folders to "c:/Documents and Settings/Greg/Start Menu" ".../Greg/Start
Menu/Programs/" and ".../Greg/Start Menu/Programs/Startup", respectively
(done by selecting the folder and then clicking "Change Location").

For some reason, the directories for "Start Menu", "Programs" and
"Startup"were all setup to a folder (a dummy folder, one which I don't recall
making) at "C:/Docs&Sets/Start Menu", etc.

I deleted "C:/Docs&Sets/" with no effect on my system.

Thanks for the info, Greg. Fixing the special folder paths is what I already
suggested, and as you already knew TweakUI automates the task.
