Start Menu MRU Programs

Not to be confused with Recent Docs...

MRU, or should it be MFU Programs in the Start Menu...I know there is a
way to manage this menu in Start Menu/Customize, but my question is
this:

Is it possible to remove select items from this list via a command
file, VBS script or a registry hack?

Problem: We are pushing out Office 2003 and the shortucts placed in the
MFU list of programs, like say Word, is broken after installing Office
2003 because of course the location is different. This confuses people
and if at all possible we'd like to remove Word, Excel, Access, Power
Point, etc from that list.

I know about TweakUI for XP, I know about the Start Menu/Customize
options...but we need to be able to script this if at all possible.

Thoughts? Thanks...

MRU is Most Recently Used, i.e. Recent Docs.

MFU is Most Frequently Used i.e. programs.

[[The list of programs on the Start menu is divided into two parts: the
programs displayed above the separator line (also known as the pinned items
list) and the programs displayed below the separator line (also known as the
most frequently used programs list).]]

[[Most Frequently Used list displays programs based on how often they are
used. If you remove a program from the list, the computer resets its usage
count to zero. When the program is used again, it gains usage points and it
can reappear in the Most Frequently Used list.]]

Yes.

I had to chuckle to myself when the user was left with a broken
shortcut after installation of Office 2003. Not any shortcut mind you
but one created by the system. Not too bright.
