Start Menu Location

Bill

Somehow, yesterday, my Start Menu button is now on the
top of the far right hand side of my screen (the task bar
goes from right to left across my screen when moved).
The "tray" is on the bottom right and moves from right to
left, also, when the task bar is expanded. I can't drag
and drop the taskbar to the bottom of my screen where it
was before, even though that is enabled. Can anyone tell
me how to move it back to the bottom of my screen so that
when it is expanded it goes from the bottom to top of the
screen. Thanks.

Hi,

Right-click the taskbar, make sure "lock the taskbar" is not checked (if it
is, click on it to uncheck it). Then left-click and drag from a blank area
back to the bottom. You may find it easier to instead drag it to the top of
the screen, then to the left side and back to the bottom.

Hi Rick,

This is my first time using "Newsgroups" for information,
and I didn't think my first posting ever got posted
(besides I didn't realize it was only 3:52 am when I sent
it!). I did another posting on the same subject, but it
is just as well. I tried your suggestion, and I could
not get the start menu to move (with "lock the taskbar"
unchecked) to the top of the screen or anywhere. Every
time I left click on the start button it opens the menu,
but I can't grab it to drag it even in a blank area? Am
I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Are you left-handed? If so, I would imagine you have your mouse setup in
reverse, so you would want to right-click and drag.

My Taskbar has Moved
a.. The taskbar is locked by default in XP, other operating system may or may not be locked. Right click a blank area of the taskbar, choose Lock The Taskbar on the menu if it is already ticked, else press escape or click away from the menu.
b.. Press Ctrl + Esc to open the Start Menu
c.. Press Esc to close the Start Menu but leaves it selected
d.. Press Alt + Space to open the System Menu for a window
e.. Press M to select Move (the M is underlined) on the System Menu
f.. then press an arrow key till the mouse cursor is in the middle, then down arrow till it reaches the bottom. Watch the mouse cursor as the taskbar snaps so won't do anything till the mouse cursor is 1/2 way. Note the arrow keys are moving the mouse cursor not the mouse.
g.. press Enter to accept changes or Esc to cancel the move.
The taskbar can also be dragged with the mouse unless it locked.

You don't drag Start but the taskbar.
