Start menu items stopped working

John

I am restoring my laptop after a hard drive crash. After installing TweakUI,
making a few tweaks and rebooting several items (like Control Panel, My Docs,
Printers & Faxes,...) no longer open. Other items, such as IE continue to
open just fine

Any idea what I might have screwed up?

I'm running WinXP Pro SP3.

Sure appreciate your help, John

ColTom2, tried reseting as you suggested in 2nd to last reply, didn't help.
Tried doing restore, but every restore point I picked would not restore.

Something has gotten set to prevent Open from working when the start menu
item is set to Display as Link. I have a tool bar that contains a shortcut
to a folder and clicking that shortcut fails to open the folder too. When I
set start menu items to Display as Menu, the menu appears fine. Something
somewhere is preventing plan old folder open from the task bar from working.

Any other ideas?

Sure appreciate your persistence, -John

Double checked, "Enable dragging and dropping" is enabled. Any other ideas?

When I right click on sa My Docs, clicking Open does nothing, but clicking
Explore opens WE in the MyDoc folder. Weird!

I appreciate your help, -John

Joe/Kelly, thx for tip, but I'm afraid everything is already as
linkfile_fix.reg restores. Feeling a little goosie making significant changes
to my registry, I visually compared every change in the file to my current
registry values and found all in place correctly. Just to be sure, I did bu
all these keys and ran the .reg file. Rebooting showed no improvement.

Open either via clicking or rt-clk>Open on any file folder in the start menu
or any toolbar start menu toolbar does nothing. Rt-clk>explore opens WE at
the selected target. Also, dbl-clk and open work fine when I'm in Windows
Explorer.

Any additional ideas? This is a sticky problem. Thx so much for your help.
