On Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1978),

The Enterprise has been under redesign, when a "thing" out there in space
is headed towards earth...
While its not yet finished the Enterprise is forced to go out and try to
intercept this "thing".

This reminds be of vista's launch.. it is not really finished, yet it is
released...

See this Memorable Quote from Mc Coy>>

"And they probably redesigned the whole sickbay, too! I know engineers, they
LOVE to change things. "

If this is not Vista I don't know what is! lol changes just for the sake of
it... :)

since service packs and hotfixes are CONSTANTLY release for EVERY os on the
planet, an intelligent person might argue that no os is EVER "finished". but
that wont stop people like you that get off on negativity and hoping that
others will fail. change for the sake of change? thats called progress...
and business. BMW just came out with a new 3 series, meanwhile the old one
was doing just fine... youre not too bright my friend.

from 2 years between win 2k and xp, you may say they didnt have much time...
5 years to get vista out with such low quality is unaceptable.
This thing needs a service pack before its even launched!!

if bmw had so many problems in the new models, they would have suffered
greatly..

But MS has dorks like you that eat whatever they give you..

Please show us your shrine to vista

far from a dork. actually started out my career as one of those "unix guys"
you hear so much about... moved to Linux to develop applications in C soon
after. use windows on the desktop because, well, its better than any other
desktop OS out there.

think, for a minute, of the enormity of the task of not only developing an
OS, but having to develop it, market it, and roll it out where it will be
used on 9.99% of pc's across the planet eventually. then having to keep
countless thousands of companies happy at the same time... not to mention
the piss ants like yourself that also want to be made happy.

you need some business training before you can appreciate any of this. until
then, go play warcraft and complain that your video card doesnt yet have
drivers for vista

did you format your sense of humor?

I don't believe anyone said anything about much time.

By the way, even though it was 5 years between the first release of XP and
Vista, there were many releases in between. Vista is really only the work
of about 2 years.

After XP, Microsoft spent more than a year retraining it's developers in
security techniques and then released Windows 2003 Server. Then they spent
more than another year working on XP SP2 to back-port many of the things
they created for 2003 back to XP, as well as several other features (like
DEP). Following that, they "rebooted" the Vista development to use the new
XP-SP2/2003-SP1 code base. 2 years later, Vista was finished.

Microsoft was essentially working on other things for 3 of those 5 years.

LOL... its so funny that people goof on MS for taking too long to release an
OS, and in the same breath say there was no reason to release it because it
was "change just for the sake of change". why care how long it took to
release if you dont like it and dont intend to use it? ill tell you why...
because the possibility of MS missing their planned date is funny and makes
some whackos happy. LOL

these are the same idiots that will be running vista as soon as they can get
it without having to pay... trust me!

M

michail iakovou yos

vista will be a big slap for ms... but the next version will be a good one

pay attention to the reviews by techs once its on the shelves

is you hobby disinformation?

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_roadtogold_01.asp

you cant fool me though.....

I'm not sure what your point is. Yeah, there were some people working on
Longhorn, but the vast majority of the windows developers were working on
Windows 2003 and XP-SP2 for the next 3 years. That's one reason why the
first Longhorn Alpha had very few changes from XP (and was even called
Longhorn XP).

There were some teams working on certain technologies, like Avalon and
Indigo, but they were laregely outside the OS development.

Make no doubt about it, Vista was a backburner project from 2002-2004/5.

If that was true, why was the original release date set for 2003, or
something?

Windows Vista was originally going to be a minor update to Windows XP. As
time went on it changed into a major release.

From this video, of an early concept presentation, it really does not look
like they planned it to be a minor upgrade at all!

Synapse.. these vista guys are so blind.. dont bother with them...

They dont even know the history of the development of the OS they
are enslaved to.

They could at least read that article more carefully....

Or seach for some videos on youtube as you correctly pointed out...

I'm not sure what your point is.

It seems that you have a problem comprehending then.
I have been monitoring the longhorn -vista evolution from the start...

Who is telling you this stuff? Or is this just your conclusion? Did you take
the time
to read the review like I sent you.. most of the history is there...

You seem that you don't understand the vastness of a company like Microsoft.
Most probably it teams that work parallel on various products... they are
not waiting for one team to finish so they can work on another project!

Microsoft has thousands of employees... !

and if you see some videos like the one synapse posted you can clearly see
that
it was not a minor update that they wanted.. they wanted something big...
very different...
new technologies that they had to drop off because they were disorganized.

MS had real big internal problems.. and all this shows in the final
product...
and even more in the contrast of what they hype was in the longhorn era,
in comparison with Vista.

Most of the 5 years was lost because of internal problems...
and then they had to hack off all the innovation and work like crazy just to
release
a buggy badly designed OS..

Hello.. NEWSFLASH for you>>>> Vista IS a minor update... lol.. that's what
it ended up as.

I cant believe anyone who can think of himself as a person who understands
technology could really like vista.

I will simply go with the flow because of the nature of my work.. I most
likely will use it.. but I will understand
the history behind it, and its limitations... and I will never fall in love
with it...

Anyway you are destroying the humorous mood this thread started out with...

I can assure you, that spock, if he was a non fictional person, he would not
be using vista...

its illogical!

No, it wasn't. It was because they started over in 2004 with the Server
2003 code base, instead of the XP code base they had been using.
and then they had to hack off all the innovation and work like crazy just
to release a buggy badly designed OS..

In your opinion.

I agree because XP x64 was based on Server 2003 code, the x64 CPP
started in 2004, released RTM about April 2005. The Longhorn beta with the
Server 2003 code started just about the time x64 was released. I remember
the continual rants by KP about not being selected for the beta. Let the
trolls rant because our systems work and theirs don't. Have a great day.
